Villa at Nandagiri Hills

OVERVIEW

Based on discussions and requirements – we decided on a contemporary modern home that still gives a feel of Indian-ness, a house that adheres to the country’s cultural values. They were also particular about easy maintenance. The land is a picturesque elevated hillock, one of the highest points of Hyderabad with a 360 degree panoramic view.
We were asked to follow Vaastu, a strong local sentiment. With the site being small, we elevated the house into split levels with living areas on higher levels to exploit the uninterrupted views.

CONCEPT

The elevated entrance to the house allows the placement of a fish pond with a water feature, which also makes the stilt look interesting when standing in that space.

The study was designed in the mid-level of the stilt to allow visitors easy access while also providing privacy to the residents.

The foyer uses inlays in the flooring with a traditional muggu (local rangoli) pattern to welcome guests. The intent of the design is to fuse traditional art with the contemporary simplicity of straight lines.

While the design is simple with straight lines, glamour is added with the furniture and accessaries with a touch of classicism. The paintings on the double heighten wall were created with input from the lady of the house who wanted to play on the theme of Hindu holidays. The design of this room respected the clients’ sentiments.

Picture windows, simple lines and walls washed in white need nothing more by way of design. The cavity wall at the stairwell is the only feature in colour that draws one’s attention.
